Our devotional theme this week is based on Hebrews 12:1-3 “Let us throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that rips us up, and fix our eyes on Jesus…” The kids took a big step in throwing off their baggage AND letting go of their fears this morning as we dug into our ministry sites. We kicked off our week with a fantastic skit from the camp staff and inspirational worship service.
This morning we had a 7:10 breakfast call~ yes all your children ate at 7 am parents!!!!!! After breakfast we were off to our working sites. We are serving at the home of a woman and her daughter who lives uphill from her with her family. Both Geneva and her daughter Lilly suffer from Macular Degeneration and are losing their sight. Geneva’s home that she shared with her husband since she married at age 16 burned down in 2009. Then she lost her husband to Alzheimers. She is living in a tráiler on the same land and the roof of the trailer is failing. We are helping to build a roof over Geneva’s tráiler. At the same time, we have a crew uphill at Lilly’s home. Construction of a ramp and deck were finished by previous crews. Our group is building a roof over the deck for shade. Both women will soon be blind and have great difficulty moving around.
The group worked very hard in the hot sun all day building… several faced fears of heights by getting up on the roof to work and all were challenged. We enjoyed our late afternoon back at the camp playing on the “blob” and swimming. After dinner they all played on the High Rope Swing and on the climbing wall. Our surroundings are both beautiful and inspiring. The weather is cooling gradually... pray for even cooler temps tonight to help us sleep!
Kristin, Michael and I are wondering if somebody cut JP's hair??? It wasn't that short when we sent him.
ReplyDeleteooooops did I give something away? Yup... kind of a tradition with the boys....we gave him a head start on the high school soccer season- and they all love it so short in the heat... hahahah quite the surprise I'm sure! Kristin
DeleteLOVE your pics! Now we can add some of them to our slides this coming Sunday, when we sing "Send Me Out" as our last song :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are all working hard, being God's hands and feet...Words from Send Me Out..... "I want to run to the ones in need, in the name of Jesus. I want to give my life away, all for Your Kingdom's sake. Shine a light in the darkest place, in the name of Jesus".

Glad to hear that things are going well at the worksite. Just remember that God does not present challenges in order to see you fail - you need to have strength and faith that he will get you through the task at hand. He is always by your side.
ReplyDeleteNo worries Kristin, I just wish we knew ahead of time he would be getting a free hair cut, we paid for a hair cut the Thursday before he left:)
